ABOUT THE ARTS AT MILLERSVILLE’S COMMUNITY PROGRAMMING • The Ware Center has grown into more than a performing arts center in the past 14 years; it has become the cornerstone of diverse, inclusive, and accessible cultural arts in the community. For over a decade, the Arts at Millersville has been working to provide "Arts for All" at this vital community hub — to lift all voices, reflect all cultures, and open all doors through the arts. The program's mission is to offer affordable cultural experiences authored by and for the diverse communities that make the region so vibrant.
Much of the Arts at MU’s vital community programming relies on grants and donations. Support during the ExtraGive helps to provide: free school performances; arts camps for children and youth of mixed abilities; state-of-the-art performance and gallery spaces offered free to local artists; artist residency programs for schools and communities; affordable Family Fun Fest events featuring nationally and internationally acclaimed performing artists; bilingual and nonverbal performances to make shows accessible to recent immigrants and refugees; accessibility services such as ASL interpretation, touch tours, audio description, and sensory-friendly performances; free We the People First Friday series highlighting local BIPOC and other marginalized artists; and free tickets for underserved communities to make the arts accessible to all.
The Arts at MU builds deep-rooted community partnerships to ensure its programming reflects the identities, needs, and realities of the region’s citizens. The program envisions the arts as a way of building empathy, understanding, and justice among the diverse people it serves, including children from underserved communities, BIPOC artists, individuals with disabilities, immigrants and refugees, senior citizens, veterans, and families.
